Short biography: After a PhD in atom optics at Institut d’Optique supervised by Alain Aspect  (Paris Saclay University, formerly known as Paris Sud University)  he turned to biophysics as a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leiden (NL) in Thomas Schmidt's group.
Over the past 25 years, he has played a leading role in the development and application of single-molecule microscopy to answer key biological questions. His current research focuses on the spectroscopy of single nano-objects, in particular single-walled carbon nanotubes, the design of new approaches to super-resolution microscopy, and the study of molecular diffusion processes in complex environments with a view to their application to e.g. neuroscience.
In 2000, he was tenured by CNRS as junior researcher at University of Bordeaux and he was promoted Research Director in 2009.
In 2011, he participated in the creation of the "Laboratoire Photonique Numérique et Nanosciences" (LP2N-Institut d'Optique-CNRS at University of Bordeaux) which is now the director since 2022
